I have had more than a few discussions regarding how much free enterprise can do. I think that the government has a very real role to play in things that are truly experimental and we can’t even say for sure will ever generate something of value. That’s where the government can do something the free market can’t, namely, in taking risks in that arena. It’s great that we’re seeing private space launch vehicles! But it’s not something that would be done as quickly without the research by NASA 50 and 60 years ago. Or as cheaply. Anyway, enough of my thoughts, Prof. Neil de Grasse Tyson weighs in on this very subject in this video.
